If there were a heaven O Lord
Will I get to see it?
Everyone says if I follow you
I will get to see it
Will it have great mountain peaks
Rivers, forests, valleys?
Will it have my friends there
And the laughter we share in the mornings?
Will heaven be a place, O Lord,
Perfect, better than earth?
I cannot fathom living without
Coffee, soup and a hearth
“You made this earth so perfect”
But I am asked to ignore
All these things you made here
And look away, as it's destroyed
They call me a communist, a rebel, a blasphemer
If I ask why
A few exploit the many, and pollute the clean skies
Oh no, my Lord, I'm asked to pray
When your perfect Earth gets ravaged
And pray for a heaven you promised
While your creations get tarnished.
How could you promise us a thing more perfect
when we ruin this perfect earth?
A heaven, which will be treated the same,
By your Bible-loving herds?
Tell me, were you joking, my lord
Is there a heaven, really?
And will the irony be that
You let us there so dearly?
They killed your son, a sacrifice
And you offered us salvation
And now if they kill your precious earth,
Is the reward, then, heaven?
